Drugstore budget friendly face of the day it is! I hadn't planned on doing this when I started getting ready this morning, but lately I've been trying to use the palettes I've neglected for a while.
One disclaimer to get out there straight away, I did use one non-drugstore item. Eye primer, my nemesis with budget looks. I keep meaning to buy an e.l.f. primer, but haven't been tempted by a good coupon that didn't mean I needed to spend $20 to get a deal. So, I used Too Faced Shadow Insurance Lemon Drop. Other than that, everything - brushes included - were drugstore price point.
Today and yesterday, I've reached for my e.l.f. 32 color palette. While it can be powdery (and a bit messy/glittery), it does have some lovely shades that are easy to work with. Since mine is a couple years old by now, I don't believe they carry this color set anymore. The current version is $10.
I used a mid-toned shimmery brown over the lid/crease, a deeper taupe for the outer lid/crease, shimmery peach over the center of the lid, light beige for the browbone, white for inner corner.
The shimmery white is a favorite of mine for the inner corner, it's just the right shimmer and pigmentation so it's not stark white but just a lovely lifting brightness.
I used a CoverGirl Liquiline Blast pencil in Violet Voltage ($7.49) for the upper and lower waterlines , Jordana Best Lash Extreme Volumizing Mascara ($3.99, which I LOVE so far, so easy to use!), Maybelline Ultra Brow Brush On Color in Light Brown ($6.79), e.l.f. brow gel ($1).
Milani Minerals Blush in Luminous ($7.49) which is unfortunately discontinued now, a pink with gold shimmer that gives a glowy sheen on the cheek. They do have a baked blush called Luminoso which I don't have, but Angie has a lovely post here Your Beauty Fashion Fitness - Milani Baked Blush in Luminoso - heavy swatches they look different but have a similar effect on the cheek (Luminoso is less heavy on the gold shimmer and a bit deeper pink/peach/coral).
On my lips I have a NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream ($5.99) in Instanbul, the finish of these lip creams is so interesting. It gives this blurred out matte look that seems different from a heavier matte lipstick. Unfortunately for me though, it's way too dry for my poor lips and I have to put something glossy over it. For those of you without zombie lips, I would definitely recommend trying them alone!
On my face, I used Sonia Kashuk Bare Minimum Pressed Powder in Translucent Fair ($9.99), I apply it with a powder puff (comes with it, I wash it periodically) and it is rather drying (fine for my super oily skin) - I hit pan a while ago and anticipate being out of it soon. Under my eyes and for nose redness, I used Revlon PhotoReady PhotoReady Concealer in Light ($8.49).
On to brushes! I used just a few tools, I tend to use one eye brush if I can get away with it. This time I used the e.l.f. Mineral Blending Brush ($3, but I don't see it online anymore) for everything. It's not the greatest brush, but it grabbed the product well and I don't feel bad about tapping it hard against the pan to get the excess loose powder/glitter off. ;) For my brows, I used a Coastal Scents Black Detail Synthetic brush ($1.99) and an e.l.f. Eyelash and Brow Wand ($1). Lastly, on my cheeks, I used an e.l.f. Studio Blush brush ($3).
These all are products and tools I've used for a while and like. All told, it's $70.22 worth of products, which can be slightly shocking! I did use quite a few items, but a normal amount for a full face. One thing to keep in mind with drugstore items is you can work sales and coupons to get the price way down, that can make a huge difference. Nonetheless, it can really show why doing a good quality $20 challenge is so difficult! If I can find a good eye primer, I will give it another go. I had two options written up that I never posted because I just couldn't get behind all of the products I used.

Love this look! I wish they hadn't discontinued that blush - it looks amazing! :) I think I have this same elf palette but it is so weird that instead of powdery most of the shades are hard as rocks and take so much time to get anything on the brush - I probably got a bad one or something! I have not yet tried the NYX matte lip creams - they look interesting but I've never been a huge fan of matte on my lips - I've tried but just can't resist making them shiny - LOL. Great job doing the challenge for a look with all drugstore items. I think the $20 challenge would be very hard to keep, and find it humorous that it gets so much "dislike" on YT. Whoever started it didn't realize that you either have to only purchase elf, or maybe rimmel, or have coupons and sales for everything - which people don't seem to like either because that is so much work. I like your challenge much better! :D
ReplyDeleteThanks Angie :) Yeah, the $20 thing also is tougher when you *need* primer and brow color - I saw someone recommend using Taupe from Wet N Wild which I have and I had to laugh. It's ultra creamy and completely bonkers to use on your eyebrows. But it's cheap! Silly. I'd love to do a good, reasonable maybe school/lazy day look with $20 if I could sort out a good primer. I do think NYX now has a new non-matte lip cream which would be interesting, but not sure they'd be so unique if they weren't that particular type of funky matte.
